overtaxing the CPU?

Hi Vidas,

question for you: every time I refresh data in my excel workbook, it seems as though it puts a lot of strain on my cpu and the fan in my computer begins to operate? I am currently running an Intel I7-7600 @ 2.8Ghz. This computer is also brand new. Also, I have 1213 entries in my workbook.

Just curious on your thoughts if this is normal?

Thanks,
Joe

  • If refresh takes about 1.5min then this is all good. If it takes more than that, that might indicate a problem with data. Especially in Excel 2010 when there is data that is not properly connected (example you do not have symbol XYZ defined, but you have quotes for symbol XYZ), PowerPivot engine starts to run much longer and requires much more memory. It is less so in Excel 2013 and much much less in Excel 2016.
