Transaction Entry to Cover Enbridge merger of Enbridge Income Fund

Vidas,
The handling of transactions to cover the recent merger by Enbridge of Enbridge Income Fund is posing some questions as to how to go about entering the so-called "Reorganization" transactions in Portfolio Slicer. (Enbridge has acquired an existing share of Enbridge Income Fund in return for a fraction of a share in Enbridge). Any insights on how to handle this?

  • Can specify what symbols & qty you had before and after reorg. For qty, for privacy, you can use scaled numbers.

  • According to the reorg agreement:
    - 0.735 shares of ENB per ENF share
    - cash payout of 0.45/share of ENF

Before the reorg: had 548 shares of ENF
After the reorg: have 402 shares of ENB
  • As this appears to be simple swap of symbols, you should do:
Date: 2018-10-30 Account: Acc1, TransType: SymbolTransferOut, Symbol: ENF, Qty: 548, Price: Closing price at the end of the date
Date:2018-10-30, Account: Acc1, TransType: SymbolTransferIn, Symbol: ENB, Qty: 402, Price: Calculate price by: 548*/402, CostBasisOverride: Original symbol ENF cost basis.

These 2 transactions should take care of such swap.
  • Thank you Vidas
